The end times refer to a period very close to the Day of Judgment, when the morality of the Qur'an will come to prevail and people all over the world will come to live by it. The immorality, oppression, cruelty, injustice and degeneration of previous ages will disappear in that holy time to be replaced by abundance, wealth, beauty, peace and stability. There will be tremendous technological advances, which all people will use for good purposes and well-being.

The hadiths (sayings) that have come down from the Prophet Muhammad (saas) describe a great many of the features of the end days. During that time, an individual (the Mahdi), with the attribute of al-Hadi (one who guides), will be the means whereby atheistic philosophies and ideologies will disappear and the cruelty and conflict currently being experienced all over the world will come to an end. The Mahdi's most important functions will be to bring people to live by religion in the way they did in the time of the Prophet (saas), establish the rule of Qur'anic morality and build peace and security everywhere in the world.

When we compare what is happening today with the signs of the end times we can see a great many indications that we are currently living in the end times and that also give the good news of the approach of the Golden Age.

The beginning of the end times is described in the hadiths as a state of chaos in which strife, wars and tribulations constantly increase, in which there is terrible moral degeneration all over the world, and in which people live far removed from religious values. During the period in question, there will be terrible natural disasters all over the planet, poverty will rise to hitherto unseen levels, crime levels will rocket, and murder and slaughter will be frequent occurrences. However, these final times are only the first phase: In the second phase, God will assign the Mahdi to rescue mankind from this state of chaos.

Of course all these things have frequently been experienced throughout the course of history. There have been any number of wars, natural disasters or earthquakes in the history of mankind. Moral degeneration has occurred in different societies at all times, and poverty and hunger have been around for hundreds of years. What makes the signs of the end times different, however, is that these signs will all happen at the same time, one after the other, and will take place in certain particular forms specified in the hadiths. However, at this point we must also stress the good news that this period of terrible chaos described in the hadiths of the Prophet (saas) is only temporary and will come to an end with the beginning of the Golden Age.

The Golden Age will be a time when war and conflict comes to an end, when those atheistic ideologies that wreaked such dreadful damage on mankind will finally be consigned to the waste bin of history, when Islamic morality spreads over the whole world, and when people turn in their millions to religion.
