Religious Prohibitions Gaining Acceptance

A fitnah (tribulation) appears and there follows other fitnahs… then comes a fitnah that considers all the unlawful acts as lawful. (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi' 'Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir al-zaman, p. 26)

Transmitted by Hudhayfa: “Our Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) said: ‘Hudhayfa! On that day, they will be on the verge of reverting back to their former religion; they will assume that wine is lawful and fail to perform their regular prayers’.” ( al-Uqayli, The Expected Mahdi, 3rd edition)

Milliyet, August 29, 2002, Bribery is increasing
Akit, August 11, 2001, Prostitution is spreading

Many unlawful acts such as prostitution, alcohol, bribery are widespread in many countries today. Western media praises and encourages those who commit these unlawful acts while even criticizing those who do not. Statistics reveal that this number steadily increases. This lifestyle that sees no boundaries, disregard what is lawful and unlawful and consider every form of mischief as normal is very much compatible with the setting depicted in the hadith. This gloomy setting, which is the bringer of the news of the Mahdi’s advent, also indicates that the coming of the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) is drawing nigh. Other related hadiths and the explanations of Islamic scholars are as follows:

The Mahdi will not emerge unless disbelief invades everywhere and is openly committed in the public. What rules in such times is the invasion by disbelief... That is its power. (Imam Rabbani, Letters of Rabbani, 2-259)

The Mahdi will emerge following the instance of such vile tribulation (fitnah) whereby all of the prohibitions are regarded as lawful. (Ibn Hajar al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi' 'Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar, p. 23)
