The Occupation of Afghanistan

Pity poor Taliqan (a region in Afghanistan) that at that place are treasures of God, but these are not of gold and silver. (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi' 'Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir al-zaman, p.59)

There is an indication that Afghanistan will be occupied during the Last Days. The Russian invasion of Afghanistan took place in 1979 (1400, according to the Islamic calendar).

… at that place are treasures of God, but these are not of gold and silver…

In addition, this hadith draws attention to Afghanistan's material riches. Today, large oil deposits, iron basins, and coal mines that have not been commercially exploited yet have been detected there.

The Soviet Army invaded the Afghanistan in 1979. This invasion which lasted about 9 years ended in 1988. This is the photograph of the Soviet Army withdrawing from Afghanistan. In the picture above are the Afghan refugees who fought against the Soviet Army.

The rich natural gas reserves of Afghanistan was considered for various projects. BBC News covered this story, drawing attention to the agrements that came to agenda with the initiation of the Afghan natural gas pipe line construction amounting to 2 million dollars. (BBC News, May 13, 2002)

In a then Der Spiegel story about the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, it is stated that Russia is willing to pursue economic interests in the region, even if she terminates the invasion. The then natural gas reserves of the country amounting to 150 billion cubic metres has a great share in this. Besides, the rich coal, lead, zinc, silver, gold mines and the world’s richest lapis mines explain this insistent attitude of Russia.
